Brought up as the offspring of a clergyman, Agnes is an old-fashioned young woman in many ways. Experiencing stress at work, Agnes eventually makes an appointment to see Dr Fiona Menzies, a medical practitioner and friend who asks to see her socially to discuss an idea.
