At the age of seventeen, Kate is badly behaved and out of control. Her shoplifting proves the final straw for her mom, Nancy, who in desperation sends Kate to stay with her grandparents for a couple of weeks. Kate is not at all impressed as her grandparents live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, with no internet. But she very quickly finds that her grandparents are incredibly strict, and she is immediately subject to the same harsh discipline her mother Nancy experienced in her teens. The whole experience comes as a painful shock for Kate; she has to get up ridiculously early and work hard at chores on the farm. Any mistake - and she makes many - are severely dealt with. She is disciplined by both grandparents, but Granny proves to be a formidable force to be reckoned with. The razor strop, hairbrush, wooden spoon, and freshly-cut switches help teach Kate a few basic manners... and much to the surprise of everyone, prove to be instrumental in helping Kate to change her behaviour and learn some important lessons...
