Clara is a girl with ambition. Dissatisfied with her life in Troughton, where everything revolves around the factory in which she works, the 22-year-old seeks something better... and when an opportunity presents itself, she seizes it. Consequently, she leads her four friends (five, with stowaway Veronica) to a town out west in Colorado. They are welcomed to Pleasantbrook, a place where young, marriageable girls are in short supply. Romance and adventures aplenty follow, and the girls are delighted to secure jobs and suitors - with three of them finding loving husbands. They also find that here, wives are expected to obey their husbands, and disobedience leads to a well-spanked bottom. Clara is in no rush to marry as she intends to set up her own business, but to her surprise, she discovers love in the arms of a man she initially thought to be arrogant and annoying. Life is good, but though the girls are happy and content, they are unaware of the growing threat from a very dangerous and powerful person who definitely does not have their best interests at heart...
