Tim and Annie Richardson receive an unexpected call from the Student Exchange Organization, asking if they can take a fifteen-year-old girl from the Philippines into their home. The couple are surprised as the Exchange Organization didn't approve of them spanking their previous student, Beth; but they are glad to be of help and look forward to getting to know their new arrival. Maria is a sweet girl whose mother died when Maria was very young; though her wealthy father has spent plenty of money on his only child, he has spent little time with her.
