A Prefect in Disgrace: Gillian and Rosemary, two misbehaving fourth-formers, go from an appointment with the headmistress's cane to a lunchtime detention led by Teresa, a stern and bullying prefect. Teresa deliberately breaks the rules to make Rosemary's unlucky bottom suffer for a second time in the same day. However, Gillian and Rosemary bravely approach the headmistress and complain about the unfair way that Rosemary was treated in detention. Later, the tables are turned, and it is Teresa who finds herself before the angry headmistress. After some initial lies, Teresa admits her guilt; her prefect status is removed, and she is subjected to a fierce caning, followed by a slippering the day after in front of other pupils. Gillian and Rosemary are well satisfied that the bully has received her comeuppance.

Nine Girls Get the Slipper: Claire's school friends gather round on her birthday to give her the traditional 'birthday bumps' but they are caught by the headmistress, who tells them off for their rowdy behaviour. Claire bravely exhibits loyalty as she speaks up for classmates, even though their actions mean she's about to be slippered.

Lines Must be Done: Marian, a 16-year-old, undergoes a painful ordeal one day at school. This involves two slipperings, one of them particularly humiliating. Afterwards there are a couple of beneficial developments, leaving Marian to wonder if it was worth it after all.

Truants in Trouble: When Melanie forgets her PE kit, she persuades her friend Denise to skip the last class with her to avoid punishment. Sadly for them, a teacher sees them in the village and a worse punishment cannot be avoided... both girls are caned by their irate headmistress, who gives them six stingers.

Numbers Matter: Beatrice is in the fourth form; she is usually a very well behaved girl, but annoying one of her teachers earns her a detention. Never having had a detention before, Beatrice goes to the wrong room and sits there for a whole hour... and is caned by the headmistress the following day.

Right of Appeal: Natalie Rogers believes that she should not be slippered for forgetting to bring her hymnbook to morning assembly. When she appeals to Mrs Castle, the headmistress not only rejects her claim, she imposes an additional penalty. Silly Natalie has made matters much worse and leaves with a very sore bottom!
