Ghost Story by Jon Thorn: Kathryn and Annabel are travelling home from university one evening when their car breaks down on a country road miles from anywhere. They abandon the car and set off on foot, heading towards the lights of what they think is a village, but turns out to be an impressive school building. To their surprise, they are met by an irate member of staff who appears to know their names. Lakeside House by J Wackford Colton: When Jeff asks his wife why she has bad memories of the house they are intending to buy, she tells the story of how her childhood friend, Paula, betrayed her, which led to her being caned by Paula's father.
