THE COWBOY AND HIS GOLD MINE

by Cara Lynn

Present Day

Smack!

"Oww!"

Smack! Smack!

"Oww!"

Smack!

"Oww! Okay! Okay, I promise I won't go near the mine again!"

"Well, a few more with this paddle should get my point across."

SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!

"Oww!!"

He loosened his grip on her and she quickly jumped off his lap and frantically rubbed her very sore bottom. There were tears running down her cheeks.

He felt bad when he saw the tears as he stood up from his seat on the side of their bed. He stepped towards her and took her in his arms, and whispered, "I'm sorry I had to do that, but you have to learn to listen to me. I'm only trying to keep you safe. I would die if something happened to you."

"I know," she sniffled. "It's just that after I read your great grandmother's diary, I just know that there is gold in that mine. She was certain of it."

"Enough, Rebecca!"

She knew him well enough to know that when he called her Rebecca, it was time to retreat. She would investigate her theories later when her best friend Mattie came over.

"Okay Honey, I'm sorry. I know you only want to keep me safe. I’d better go and check with Nora and see if I can help her with dinner. Jake and Mattie will be here in a few hours and thanks to you I won't be able to sit comfortably!" She pouted as she stomped her foot.

"Do you need a lesson in manners, young lady?"

"No, no, I'm sorry. It's just that my bottom hurts!"

He chuckled and gave her a kiss on her forehead. "Then behave!"

God, Joseph loved his feisty wife. She was a handful at barely 5 feet tall, with curly brown hair and green eyes that flashed when she was mad. She had such an imagination. He had heard all the stories about gold in that abandoned mine as he was growing up, but no one had ever found any, and after the cave-in several years ago he had it closed and condemned. She had no business anywhere near that mine. There were plenty of places for her to ride on the ranch. It was the largest spread in the County.

He was very proud of all the work he had done to make it one of the most successful cattle ranches in the state. He had several thousand head of cattle and a dozen men working for him. He had turned the ranch into something his grandfather would have loved.

Several Years Ago

Joseph was a big man, way over 6 feet tall. He was very fit and had a kind heart. But when he said something there was no arguing with him. He and Rebecca had been married for several years and they were very happy. They were well suited, as his grandfather would have said.

When they first met at a barn dance, he knew she was the woman for him. But Rebecca was from the city, just visiting her best friend Mattie, and he wasn't sure she would take to ranching life. The life of a rancher's wife was quite different to that of city life.

Mattie was married to David, his best friend and the sheriff of their County. The three of them had lived here their whole lives. They were like the Three Musketeers. After high school, each of them went off to different colleges, but came back to Wildwood and settled down.

David always knew he wanted to be in law enforcement and Joseph knew he would come back and the run the ranch with his grandfather. Mattie went into journalism and as soon as she finished college, she quickly got a job at their local newspaper.

Everyone knew Mattie and David would get married. They were together since childhood and became sweethearts in high school. Right after graduating from college, they returned to Wildwood, got married and bought a nice house in town.

Mattie's life was wonderful and she wanted Joseph to be as happy as she and David. She was always trying to fix him up, and David had warmed her bottom several times for her efforts. David told her that Joseph would find the right woman in due time without her interference. Mattie pouted, but since her bottom was already very sore, agreed to stop matchmaking.

What she didn't tell David was that she had already invited Rebecca, her best friend from college, to come down and spend the week with them - the week of the big barn dance. David liked Rebecca, so he wouldn't have a problem with her staying with them as long as he didn't figure out Mattie was matchmaking once again.

She chuckled to herself. Rebecca would be the perfect match for Joseph. If only Rebecca loved Wildwood as much as she did. It would be perfect having Rebecca marry Joseph. They would have such fun together. She did worry about how Rebecca would react to having her bottom warmed. She and Rebecca had never discussed spanking and how it was a part of her life with David. Mattie knew Joseph would handle situations in the very same manner as David did... with Rebecca over his knee. Oh dear, she had so much to work out. This matchmaking was a very difficult job, but Joseph's happiness was worth it.

The annual barn dance in Wildwood was a big event and always such fun. When Mattie told David that she had invited Rebecca to stay with them for a week, he was delighted. David liked Rebecca and he knew she was Mattie's very best friend. But he did worry about the mischief the two of them could get into. He would have to keep a close eye on them both.

Rebecca was to take the train to Wildwood. The journey was only a few hours and was better than her driving the distance by herself.

Mattie was so excited when the train pulled into the station. She couldn't wait for Rebecca to get off the train! When she saw her, she ran and hugged her friend.

"Oh, I'm so happy you are finally here!"

"Me too," Rebecca squealed. "This is going to be such a fun vacation."

"Oh, you have no idea," Mattie said, chuckling to herself. Mattie knew Rebecca was going to fall head over heels in love with Joseph and that is exactly what happened.

In less than a year, Joseph and Rebecca were married and settled into the lovely ranch house, not far from town.

Rebecca and Joseph had been married for several months when Rebecca turned up at Mattie's in tears.

"Rebecca, honey, what’s wrong? Is Joseph all right? Please tell me!" asked Mattie frantically.

Rebecca came in and sat down on the couch and winced. Suddenly Mattie knew exactly what had happened to her friend. She had just received her first spanking!

"Joseph spanked me, Mattie! I’m so embarrassed. And it really hurt! I have never been spanked before in my entire life!" she cried.

"Oh sweetie, tell me what happened," Mattie gently said.

"We had our first argument and Joseph said the discussion was closed. But I didn't think it was over. He just wasn't listening to me. I stood up and stomped my foot and shook my finger at him and the next thing I knew, I was over his knee and he was spanking me. Spanking me! I’m a grown woman and I was over my husband's knee getting spanked. I was so embarrassed, and as if that wasn't bad enough, suddenly he pulled my panties down and started spanking my bare bottom! Oh, Mattie, it really hurt! When he stopped, I jumped up and ran out of the house and came right over here. I never want to see him again. I won't live with a man who abuses me. I just won't!"

Mattie held her and let her get it all out before she spoke. "Oh honey, it will be okay. I have a lot to tell you. Why don't I make us a cup of coffee while you calm down, then we will have a very long girl talk."

Rebecca sniffled. "Okay, Mattie. A cup of coffee does sound nice. I can't imagine what you have to say to me. Nothing is going to make this alright."
