THE CATTLE RUSTLERS

by Cara Lynn

Emma sat on the front porch in her rocker pensively reflecting on the events of the past year, where a simple trip to the bank to pick up her passport led to her witnessing Manuel Mercado shoot innocent people. She had been whisked away into Witness Protection, but what started out to be the worst day of her life, led her to Travis, the love her life.

Travis was assigned to protect her, and that was not an easy job because she had not been very cooperative. Fleeing Mercado and his men was traumatizing, and little did she know that the experience would shape her future life in a particular direction – because now she was married to Travis and living on this fabulous ranch. Travis had even managed to bring her horse, Honey, to the ranch as a surprise.

Months had passed since Manuel Mercado was re-captured and sent to a hospital for the criminally insane. This time, everyone prayed he wouldn't be able to buy his way out. Slowly, their lives returned to normal. Emma rode Honey every day. Travis had relaxed his rule about her not riding alone and it was so exciting to ride through their property. There was a lovely lake not too far from the house and it was one of her favorite places. She loved sitting under the huge oak tree, looking out at the lake. Usually she brought a light lunch and her journal.

Her writing seemed to be so much more productive down at the lake. She would even go swimming when it was an especially hot day and she was sure Travis was working and wouldn't have time to join her. Swimming by herself was one rule that Travis didn't realize she frequently broke. Swimming alone was forbidden and if she was caught, would most certainly result in a good fanny warming

Travis had been very reluctant to put her over his knee since the 'out of control' paddling. He felt guilty for paddling her so hard, especially after he saw her bruised butt. Although she forgave him, he still carried around some guilt. That guilt, coupled with her trying really hard to be good, had meant she hadn't received a spanking in months. She considered herself a very lucky girl!

That luck abruptly ended one very hot summer day while she was having a long, relaxing swim in the lake. The water was so cool and refreshing that she stayed in longer than she had planned. She knew there was a possibility Travis would finish up early that afternoon because, after breakfast when he saw her packing up various foods and her journal, he asked if she was going to the lake and said he'd try to join her later. Time just got away from her. The water was so cool and refreshing she didn't even see Travis ride up. Suddenly, she heard him bellowing at her.

"Get out of that water immediately, Emma," he yelled.

"Oh my God, Travis, I didn't see you. It isn't what you think," she stuttered as she slowly swam back to shore.

"Really, just what am I thinking, Emma? Am I thinking you deliberately disobeyed me? Am I thinking you broke a trust we had? Am I thinking how you're about to get a spanking you won't soon forget? I want you out of that water and standing here now.”

He was really mad and she knew that wouldn't be good for her backside. She swam as fast as she could and slowly climbed out of the water and started walking toward Travis.

"Do you have any idea how much trouble you're in, young lady? I know I've been way too lenient these past several months, but that's going to end now," he barked at her. "You know all too well you are forbidden to swim alone, isn't that right?"

"Yes, sir," she quietly replied, hoping her submissive answer would help her.

He grabbed her arm and pulled her towards the large flat rock on the other side of the trees. He sat down and she found myself over his knee waiting for what she knew was going to be a very thorough spanking. The pain was instant. Her butt was on fire. She couldn't believe how much more this hurt over a wet swimming suit.

"Oow, ooow, oh it hurts so much. Please stop. Please stop," she cried to Travis.

"Oh no, you're not going to get out of this spanking until I'm through. I'm totally in control right now and you've earned a very thorough spanking and that's what you're going to get," Travis replied.

"No more, no more; I can't take any more."

"Yes you can and yes you will. I've just begun and, trust me, you won't be sitting comfortably any time soon. I know that in the future you'll not be swimming alone."

"I won't. I promise. I'll never swim alone again. Please, please stop. I really hurt. Ouch, ouch oow..." she sobbed.

Her crying was incoherent by this time and still the spanking continued. She'd really pushed him too far. She knew her days of swimming alone were over. In fact, she would never disobey her husband again. She had truly forgotten how much one of Travis' spankings hurt.

"Please," she sobbed. "Please, no more. I've learned my lesson. I promise I'll be good forever," she begged.

Travis chuckled to himself, like that would ever happen, but he did stop the spanking. He carefully rubbed her back and butt until she quieted. Gently, he lifted her onto his lap and pulled her close. She hissed when her bottom came in contact with his rough jeans, but then she settled against his chest.

He cuddled and rocked her and placed a kiss on the top of her head. "Sweetie, you scared me. Do you realize how very dangerous it is to swim alone?" he asked her softly.

"I do know," she sniffled, "but it was hot and the water looked so cool and tempting that I just couldn't resist. I promise I'll never do it again, no matter how hot it is," she quickly added.

Emma started pouting, but when he went back to kissing her, she couldn't help but respond. After several long, passionate kisses, he said, "How about we head home where we can finish this in our wonderful, soft bed? I'll even let you ride back to the house on my lap. It'll be easier on your tender little butt," he laughed.

"Don't make fun of me," she pouted.

"Oh, honey, I'm not making fun of you, really I'm not. I just wanted you to be more comfortable on the ride home. I want you to enjoy our lovemaking," Travis quickly reassured her.

"Oh, then I'd love to ride on your lap. Actually, it's my very favorite place to ride," she laughed.

They slowly stood up and headed toward the horses. Emma had a few things to pack up and did so quickly. Travis climbed on Colonel, grabbed Honey's reins and then reached down and pulled his sweet Emma up onto his lap. She squirmed, but finally got comfortable, and settled into Travis' chest and promptly fell asleep.

He just smiled down at her. She was so adorable when she was sleeping. Oh, how he loved his sweet Emma. She really could be a handful, but he'd never change a thing about her. She was his life, and right now his life was truly perfect.

On their ride home, Travis started thinking about his best friend, Dan. The way Dan had been acting lately, he figured his friend had met a woman, the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Sara seemed nice. She was cute as a button, but was as feisty as his own sweet Emma and she could really be sassy. Dan was going to have to keep a tight rein on her for a while.

In fact, since he knew she and Emma would become fast friends, he was also going to have to keep a close watch on Emma. The two women together were certainly going to be able to get into a heap of trouble. It was going to be an interesting time; definitely an interesting time.

He bent over and gave Emma a quick kiss and said, "Emma, honey; we're almost home; time for you to wake up."

She stretched, winced a little and said, with a yawn, "Okay. I'm awake."

Once they reached the barn, he asked one of the hands to take care of the horses. He helped her down and they headed toward the house. They entered through the kitchen and, seeing Bess, asked her if dinner could be an hour later than usual. Bess smiled and said, "Of course, no problem at all."

She was thankful to see them so very happy. She hadn't been sure that their love would survive that horrid paddling he had given her several months ago. It had and they seemed even more in love, if that was possible.

When they reached the staircase, Travis swept Emma up in his arms and carried her to their bedroom. He entered the room and kicked the door shut. Emma was naked in an instant and she was working at getting Travis out of his clothes. Then they were in each other's arms, professing their eternal love for each other.

After making love several times, they curled up together and fell asleep. Hours later they stretched awake, kissed each other and got dressed for dinner. It had been a really good day, despite the spanking. Emma truly felt safe and very loved. Life was perfect.

Dinner was wonderful, as usual. Bess was such a good cook. They were so lucky to have her. Travis made sure to compliment Bess. She blushed and thanked him and scurried back into the kitchen to get the dessert and coffee ready.

After dessert and coffee, they were both stuffed and retired into Travis' study.

"I think Dan's going to marry Sara," Emma giggled.

"Now you stay out of their love life. I don't want you interfering with them," Travis cautioned.

"Oh, don't be silly. I'm not interfering," she pouted. "I'm just making an observation. Sara was all Dan talked about when he was here."

"Observe all you want, but if I sense any interfering you'll find yourself over my knee. Do I make myself clear?" Travis replied.

"Yes, you're quite clear," she replied in a snit.

"Watch the attitude or you may find yourself over my knee right now. I wouldn't think that would feel very good on your sore little butt."

She gritted her teeth, her anger bubbling close to the surface, and said, "Yes sir." Then she said, "I'm tired and I'm going to bed." With that, she got up and headed to the bedroom, stomping all the way.

She smiled to herself, thinking she had gotten the last word, when she felt a hard smack to her backside. "Ouch," she squealed.

"You'll get more than that if you don't change that attitude. Don't think I didn't know what you were doing back there and I won't put up with it. Do you understand?" he barked at her. "I can turn that swat into a full blown spanking if you want me to," he told her.

"No, no more spanking. I'll be good. I'm sorry," she cried.

"Okay, let's go to bed. I can think of a much better way to spend the rest of our evening," he chuckled.

"Oh, yes," she laughed and then ran into their room and jumped on the bed. "I'm ready for some great loving," she teased.

"Always happy to oblige my little wife," he laughed, grabbed her and planted a deep kiss on her lips. They were quickly undressed and in each other's arms.

Travis was a fantastic lover. She marveled at how wonderful and satisfied he always made her feel. Completely worn out, she snuggled against Travis' chest and fell asleep.

Dan had been dating Sara for several months and was so very much in love with her. He met her in the General Store, where she worked for her father, Frank Evans. Sara was full of life and so very beautiful. Dan couldn't believe how lucky he was and Sara seemed to feel the same way.

Her father approved of her relationship with the sheriff. He and Dan had gotten along very well, and secretly he hoped Dan would marry his Sara. She needed a good strong man as a husband and as far as he was concerned, Dan was that man.

Frank feared he'd never be able to find a truly suitable husband for Sara, and although that sounded very old fashioned, he was an old fashioned kind of person. Sara was the apple of his eye and she indulged her father in his old fashioned ways.

The only problem was that Frank could never bear to discipline her. Sara had lost her mother when she was a small child and although Sara was a sweet girl, she was very spoiled and insisted on having her own way in everything.

Most of the other young men Sara had dated gave up after a few weeks of her tantrums. She was very content to work in the General Store and live with her father. After all, she had absolutely no bills and did whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. She spent her entire check on herself and if she ran out of money her father gave her more. Life was truly perfect, as far as Sara was concerned.

Her spoiled life was about to come to a complete halt. That halt was called Dan White, the town's very capable sheriff. She met Dan a while ago when he came into her father's General Store. He was so handsome, tall, well over six feet, with blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes. She could tell he was interested in her; all men were interested in her. She flirted with him every time he came into the store, which was now quite often. She knew he was close to asking her out on a date and he did. But they only had that one date when that awful Manuel Mercado incident happened.

He was gone for more than a week and she was very frustrated. She knew it was his job and it was his best friend, Travis and his wife, Emma, who were in danger, but she didn't have to like it. She was used to being the center of attention all the time and didn't take well to being second in anyone's life. Maybe he wasn't the right man for her after all.

Then Dan came home and immediately went to see Sara. He brought her a bouquet of beautiful flowers and gently kissed her when she answered the door. Now this is more like it, she thought to herself. She invited him to join her and her father for dinner and he promptly accepted the offer. He really wanted to make Sara his wife.

They had a lovely dinner. Sara was a very good cook. He and Frank retired to the study while Sara cleaned up the kitchen. Dan took this opportunity to have a serious talk with Frank.

"Frank," he began, "I think you know I'm very interested in your daughter."

"Yes, Dan, happily I can say that I do," Frank replied.

"Well, Frank, I would like to ask for her hand in marriage," Dan blurted out. "I know it's too early, since we have barely begun to date, but I know she's the woman for me," Dan continued.

"Don't be embarrassed, my boy," Frank laughed. "I know just how you feel. I felt the same way the first time I laid eyes on Sara's dear mother. Sara's a lot like her mother - being very spoiled. Unfortunately, I have done Sara no favors since her mother's death. I just couldn't bring myself to discipline her and I don't think I have ever said no to her," Frank sadly stated.

Looking at Dan with tears in his eyes, he continued. "My Sara's a very sweet girl. She just doesn't know how to accept the word no. She's a loving and trusting girl and has a lot of love to give, but she also has a terrible temper. Her temper tantrums are something to behold and nothing that I'm particularly proud of. I know she'll make a good wife and mother with the right man to guide her and I think you're that man. If you decide that you want to be her husband, you'll have to find a way to handle her."

Dan smiled at Frank and said, "Don't worry, Frank. I know how to handle bratty little girls. I'm not sure you'll approve, but if she's my wife, it'll be my way. I promise you I'll never take my fists to her or hurt her, but I will put her over my knee and paddle her for bad behavior."
