After reading through a diary that once belonged to her husband Joseph's grandmother, Rebecca tries to convince Joseph that his grandmother was right - telling him that she is sure there must be gold in the old mine. Already familiar with all the stories he heard as a boy, Joseph dismisses the idea. Following a cave-in at the mine a few years back, he had the mine condemned as unsafe, and forbids his wife to go there, giving Rebecca a spanking to help drive the point home.

Rebecca tells her best friend Mattie that she found some maps and papers in an old jewellery box that belonged to Joseph's grandmother. The two women decide to go to the mine in secret and take a look for themselves, and begin to plan their little escapade. When they find what they believe to be gold nuggets in the mine, they take them into town and arrange for them to be analysed.

Meanwhile Mattie's husband David, who is also the local Sheriff, is intent on catching bank robbers. Little does he know the role that Mattie and Rebecca will play - but their foolhardiness results in spanked bottoms...
